Taru Lehto has served as the principal viola of the Lapland Chamber Orchestra for nearly 28 years.

 

Throughout her long career, she has also made guest appearances and substitutions in other top Finnish orchestras, including the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, the Finnish National Opera, and the Central Ostrobothnia Chamber Orchestra.

 

Between 2000 and 2014, Taru also served for nine years as the principal violist of the Savonlinna Opera Festival Orchestra.

 

In addition to her orchestral work, Taru has a strong passion for studying. She graduated from the Hospital and Care Musician specialist training program organized by Turku University of Applied Sciences in spring 2024. She is also currently studying social work at the University of Lapland.

 

Considering herself a lifelong student, Taru also teaches viola at the Lapland Music Institute.

 

Taru served as the chairperson of the Finnish Viola Society from 2018 to 2023 and is now an honorary member of the society.
